Here’s a thought – we are all EU citizens at the moment, you can find out what that means here http://ec.europa.eu/justice/citizen/
This is from the page – What is EU citizenship?
- Any person who holds the nationality of an EU country is automatically also an EU citizen. EU citizenship is additional to and does not replace national citizenship. It is for each EU country to lay down the conditions for the acquisition and loss of nationality of that country.
- Citizenship of the Union is conferred directly on every EU citizen by the Treaty on the Functioning of the EU
Does this mean that the UK govt has no right to withdraw my EU citizenship which is “conferred directly on every EU citizen” in theory bypassing the national government?
At the moment we are all EU citizens, as well as UK subjects but the UK is only able to change my UK nationality status, (see italics).
I want an EU passport and to keep my EU citizenship.
